A Slack AI bot that answers from company documentation
The ChatDocument Slack AI bot gives employees cited answers where they already ask colleagues for help. Message it directly, mention it in a channel or use automatic answers in help channels. It uses the same company sources and permissions as the web app and comes with Business and Scale.
Keep the question beside the work conversation
An employee asks "How do I request access to the reporting dashboard?" in an IT help channel. A Sales colleague asks "Which security document should I send with this proposal?" during a deal discussion. The bot looks to company documentation so an expert does not have to locate the same guidance for every conversation.
Connect the places where your team maintains its knowledge. ChatDocument supports Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive, Confluence, Notion, Dropbox, Slack, uploaded documents, websites and help centers. Sources stay where they are, and new or edited documents are picked up on their own.
The answer in Slack can therefore draw on the relevant knowledge across accessible department spaces. Employees do not have to know which wiki page or drive folder contains the procedure before asking the question.
Use direct messages, mentions and help channels
Send the bot a direct message for a question you want to ask directly. Mention it within a channel conversation to bring documented guidance into the discussion. Automatic answers in help channels support the places where routine HR, IT or Operations questions already arrive.
Choose the conversation that fits the task and the knowledge involved. Sensitive department material belongs within the appropriate audience, with source permissions and private spaces defining which documentation employees can use.
| How employees ask | When it is useful |
|---|---|
| Direct message | Looking up a company process directly |
| Channel mention | Bringing a sourced answer into an ongoing discussion |
| Automatic help channel answer | Responding to recurring questions where help is requested |
| Hand off to a person | Getting help when the documents do not contain the answer |
Open the source behind the reply
Every sentence links to its document, section and space. Employees can open the passage to check the exact instruction instead of accepting a chat response without supporting material. Answers appear in the language of the question.
For "Who approves an expense exception?" the response points back to the documented policy. The employee can check whether the policy's conditions match the situation before acting. A colleague joining the conversation can use the same source to understand the guidance.

Hand off when the documentation stops short
If the documents do not answer the question, ChatDocument says "not in your documents" and shows the closest passages it checked. The bot can hand off to a person rather than inventing a company procedure.
"Can a contractor receive temporary access without a manager's approval?" may need a policy owner if the source only describes the standard access route. A clear missing answer helps the employee bring a specific uncertainty to the right person.
Business and Scale also include knowledge gaps. Unanswered questions are grouped for the right owner, and conflicting or outdated documentation is flagged. A repeated chat question can become a reason to improve the source guidance.
Use the same access rules as the browser
The bot follows the same sources and permissions as the ChatDocument web app. Employees only receive answers from documents they are allowed to open. Private department spaces support sensitive HR, Legal or leadership knowledge.
Department owners can verify recurring answers with a review date and version history. Saved answers help the team reuse useful guidance. Together, department spaces and verified answers give the knowledge behind chat replies a responsible home.
Include work chat in the shared team plan
The Slack bot is included with Business and Scale, alongside the Microsoft Teams bot. Questions asked in work chat count toward the shared plan allowance, as do questions in the browser. See pricing for people, sources and question limits.
FAQ
Does the bot only search Slack messages?
No. It answers from connected company documentation using the same sources and permissions as the web app. Slack can also be a knowledge source.
Can employees inspect the original guidance?
Yes. Every sentence has a source link identifying its document, section and space. Clicking the source opens the relevant passage.
What happens when a person needs to step in?
The bot supports hand off to a person when the documentation does not answer. It makes the missing answer clear and shows the closest passages it checked.
