Chat with Dropbox files and see the exact page each answer comes from
Client folders, signed contracts, scanned receipts and project archives often live in Dropbox long after anyone remembers what is inside. Connect the folders you choose and ChatDocument answers questions from those files alone, naming the file and page for every statement.
Sign in to Dropbox and grant read access
The space owner signs in to Dropbox, approves read access for ChatDocument and selects folders, including team folders the account can open. ChatDocument reads those files and nothing else. It never uploads into your Dropbox, renames anything or changes who a folder is shared with.
- Personal and team folders the signed in account can open
- Read access only, to the folders you pick
- Add more folders to the same space later
Connect, select, ask
- 1Open a space, choose Connect a drive and pick Dropbox.
- 2Sign in to Dropbox and grant read access.
- 3Tick the folders to include. ChatDocument indexes the supported files inside them, reading scanned PDFs with OCR.
- 4Ask a question in the space. The answer cites each Dropbox file by name and page, and a click opens it at the highlighted passage.
- 5The folders sync on a schedule, adding new files and dropping deleted ones. When a client sends a fresh document, press Sync now in the space.
Files read from Dropbox folders
PDF (with OCR for scans), Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX and CSV), PowerPoint (PPTX), plain text and Markdown. Images, archives and other formats are skipped and named in the sync report, as is any file above the size limit of your plan.
Dropbox client folder in a space
A client space connected to a Dropbox folder of leases and amendments, with an answer about the rent review date citing the second amendment on page 3.
Membership of the space, not folder sharing, controls access
Sharing a Dropbox folder with a colleague does not let them ask about it in ChatDocument, and removing them from the folder does not remove them from the space. The members and roles of the ChatDocument space decide who can ask. Keep each client's folder in that client's space so no answer ever mixes material from two clients.
Disconnect and the synced copy is gone
When you disconnect Dropbox from a space, ChatDocument deletes the synced documents and their index. The originals in Dropbox stay untouched. Synced content leaves backups within 30 days, and you can also remove the app from the connected apps list in your Dropbox account.
Dropbox on each plan
On Starter, Dropbox can be the 1 connected drive of the plan. Team, Business and Enterprise connect Dropbox alongside Google Drive and SharePoint and OneDrive. Every synced page counts once per billing period toward the monthly page limit of 2,000, 8,000, 30,000 or 100,000 pages, a scanned page counts as 3, and deleting a file does not give pages back. See chat with PDF pricing.
