AI legal document analysis that cites the page behind every answer
ChatDocument gives legal teams a fast way to ask questions of agreements, policies, filings and correspondence they already hold. Every answer comes only from the documents in the space you select, every statement carries the document name and page, and when the answer is not in the files, it says so plainly instead of guessing.
Built for in-house counsel, firms and legal operations
Legal work runs on long documents that someone has to read again every time a question comes up. ChatDocument keeps them in shared spaces so the next question takes minutes, not an afternoon of scrolling.
- Commercial agreements, master service agreements, order forms and amendments
- Corporate records such as bylaws, board minutes and shareholder agreements
- Internal policies, codes of conduct and regulatory guidance your team relies on
- Litigation files, discovery productions and deposition transcripts
- Scanned signed copies, read with OCR so they answer like any other PDF
Questions you can put to a folder of legal files
Type the question the way you would ask a colleague. The answer lists the clause wording it relies on and a chip for each page.
- Which of our vendor agreements allow termination for convenience, and with how many days of notice?
- What does the 2024 amendment change about the liability cap in the original agreement?
- Where do the board minutes record approval of the new share option plan?
- Which documents in this production mention the March shipment delay?
- What governing law and venue apply in each agreement with this counterparty?
From upload to a cited answer your team can check
Create a space for a matter, a counterparty or a contract portfolio, then upload PDF, Word or scanned files, or connect a folder from Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive or Dropbox so new versions sync on a schedule.
- Cited answers: each statement links to the page, and clicking the chip opens the document at the highlighted passage. Each quoted passage is checked in code against the document before the answer appears.
- Compare 2 to 5 documents: put an amendment next to the original, or three versions of a template side by side, and see where the terms differ, with a citation on each side. Read more on compare documents ai.
- Extract to table: pick documents and define columns such as Counterparty, Effective date, Term, Renewal, Notice period, Governing law, Liability cap and Assignment. Every cell links to its page, and the table exports to XLSX or CSV. See ai pdf to excel.
- Summaries: a one-page or section-by-section summary of a long agreement or transcript, every line cited.
- Sharing: invite colleagues as owners, editors or askers, save threads per matter and share a single answer by link.
When the documents do not hold the answer
Legal questions often have no answer in the file at hand. ChatDocument says that the answer is not in the selected documents and shows the closest passages it checked, so you know where to look next. It never fills the gap from general knowledge. Read cited answers from documents for how the check works.

What ChatDocument does not do for a legal team
ChatDocument finds, quotes and organizes what your documents say. It does not give legal advice, it does not decide what a clause means for your client, and it does not replace the judgment of a lawyer. Treat each answer as a pointer to the page, and read the cited passage before relying on it. Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest and are never used to train models; details are on secure ai document chat.
FAQ
Can ChatDocument read scanned signed agreements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs are read with OCR and answer like digital files. A scanned page counts as 3 pages toward the monthly page limit.
Does it answer from outside sources or case law?
No. It answers only from the documents in the space you select. If the answer is not there, it tells you so and shows the closest passages it checked.
Can we keep matters separate?
Yes. Each matter can have its own space with its own members and roles, and questions in one space never draw on documents in another.
Is the audit log available on every plan?
No. The audit log is part of Business and Enterprise.
