What counts as a question and a page

Usage is counted as consumption in the billing period, so you always know what an action costs before you run it. More on how answers are produced is on the how it works page.

  • One question is one cited answer, including retrieval of passages, the citation check and the written answer.
  • In an extraction, one row (one document) counts as 1 question, whatever the number of columns.
  • A comparison of two to five documents counts as 3 questions.
  • Questions asked through the widget or the API count toward the plan like questions asked in the app.
  • A new page counts once per billing period when it is processed, and a scanned page read with OCR counts as 3 pages.
  • Deleting a document does not give pages or questions back.
  • No plan has unlimited questions or unlimited pages.

How billing works

Yearly billing is the default view and costs half as much per month as monthly billing. Plans renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel any time from your account, with access running to the end of the period you paid for. Moving to a larger plan applies right away and the difference is charged at once.

  • Payments are final, except for a double charge, a proven unauthorized charge or a complete failure of the service, as set out in the refund policy.
  • Enterprise can pay by invoice.
  • Questions about plans or invoices go to [email protected].

Pricing FAQ

Can I try ChatDocument before paying?

Yes, once. The demo on the homepage reads one PDF and answers one question with page citations, and no card is needed. There is no free plan, so everything after that runs on a paid subscription.

Are seats and questions shared across the team?

Questions on Team, Business and Enterprise are pooled, so the whole team draws from one monthly allowance and one daily cap. Seats are the number of people who can sign in to the workspace.

What happens when we reach a limit?

The daily cap resets the next day and the monthly allowance resets with the billing period. If you need more before then, move to a larger plan and the new limits apply immediately.

Do the widget and API cost extra?

No. They are part of Business and Enterprise, and every question asked through them counts toward the same monthly allowance as questions asked in the app. See the widget for how it is set up.

Can we pay by invoice?

Enterprise includes invoice billing. Starter, Team and Business are paid by card, monthly or yearly.
