Chat with Google Drive files and get the page behind every answer
Connect Google Drive, choose the folders that matter and ask questions across the files in them. ChatDocument keeps those folders in sync, answers only from what they contain and cites the file name and page for every statement, so the drive your team already maintains becomes something you can question instead of something you have to search.
Sign in to Google and pick folders
Connecting takes a minute and is done by the space owner. You sign in with your Google account, grant ChatDocument read access, and pick the folders to bring into a space, from My Drive or from shared drives you can open. ChatDocument reads the files in those folders. It does not write to your drive, move files or change their sharing settings.
- Read access only, limited to the folders you select
- Folders from My Drive and shared drives
- Several folders can feed the same space
From a Drive folder to a cited answer
- 1In a space, choose Connect a drive and pick Google Drive.
- 2Sign in to Google and grant read access.
- 3Select one or more folders. ChatDocument reads and indexes the supported files inside them.
- 4Ask questions in the space. Each answer cites the Drive file and the page, slide or cell range.
- 5Selected folders sync on a schedule: new files are added, edited files are re-read and deleted files leave the index. Use Sync now in the space when you need a change picked up right away.
What ChatDocument reads from Drive
PDF files (scanned PDFs through OCR), Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX and CSV), PowerPoint (PPTX), plain text and Markdown. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are read through their Word, Excel and PowerPoint versions, so citations point to the page, sheet or slide. Files in other formats in the same folder are skipped and listed in the sync report.
A space fed by a Drive folder
The Policies space showing its connected Google Drive folder, the time of the last sync, the Sync now button and the list of indexed files.
The space decides who can ask
Who may ask questions about synced files is set by the members and roles of the ChatDocument space, not by each colleague's own Drive access. Connect a folder only to a space whose members should be able to read answers from it. A folder with board papers belongs in a space for the board, a folder with the employee handbook can go into a space for everyone.
Removing the connection removes the documents
Disconnecting Google Drive from a space deletes the synced documents and their index from ChatDocument. Your files in Drive stay exactly where they are. Synced content is removed from backups within 30 days. You can also revoke ChatDocument's access from your Google account settings at any time.
Available on every plan
Starter includes 1 connected drive, so one of Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive, or Dropbox. Team, Business and Enterprise connect all three. Synced pages count toward the monthly page limit once per billing period (2,000, 8,000, 30,000 or 100,000 pages by plan), and a scanned page counts as 3. A file larger than the plan limit (50, 100, 200 or 500 MB) is skipped and named in the sync report. See chat with PDF pricing.
Drive folders teams connect first
- HR policy chatbot: the shared folder with the handbook and policies, for staff questions.
- RFP AI: the folder of past proposals and security questionnaires.
- AI financial document analysis: board packs and monthly reports kept in a shared drive.
More places your documents live
Teams on Microsoft 365 use AI for SharePoint, and teams on Dropbox use chat with Dropbox files. Every connected file gets the same cited answers from documents.
