ChatDocument

Cited answers from documents, with every page checked before you read it

Ask a question and ChatDocument answers only from the documents in the space you selected. Each statement in the answer carries the document name and the page it came from, every quoted passage is verified in code before the answer is shown, and when the files simply do not contain the answer, you are told so instead of getting a confident guess.

An answer you can defend in a meeting

A sentence without a source is an opinion. In ChatDocument, every sentence of an answer points to a passage: the page of a PDF or Word file, the slide of a PowerPoint deck, or the sheet and cell range of an Excel workbook. One click opens the document at that spot with the passage highlighted, so a reviewer can confirm the wording in seconds rather than searching the file again.

  • Citation chips after each statement, such as p. 4 or Sheet Q3, B12 to B18
  • The source opens beside the answer with the passage marked
  • Answers draw on the selected space only, never on outside knowledge

From question to checked answer in four steps

  1. 1You pick a space and type a question in plain English. The space decides which documents can be used.
  2. 2ChatDocument retrieves the passages most relevant to the question from those documents, including text read with OCR from scanned PDFs.
  3. 3The answer is written from those passages only, and each statement is tagged with the passage it relies on.
  4. 4Code compares every cited passage with the stored text of the document. A citation that does not exist on that page, or does not contain the quoted words, is removed together with the statement it supports. Only what survives the check reaches your screen.

A plain statement that the documents are silent

If none of the retrieved passages answers the question, ChatDocument does not reach for general knowledge to fill the gap. It writes that the documents in this space do not contain an answer and shows the closest passages it checked, with their pages. That tells you two useful things at once: the answer is missing from the files, and where the nearest related wording sits.

Included in every plan

Cited answers and the citation check run on Starter, Team, Business and Enterprise. One question means one cited answer. Starter covers 500 questions a month and 60 a day for one seat. Team pools 2,000 a month across 5 seats with 250 a day, Business pools 7,000 across 15 seats with 800 a day, and Enterprise pools 20,000 across 50 seats with 2,000 a day. New pages count once per billing period (a scanned page counts as 3): 2,000, 8,000, 30,000 and 100,000 pages a month by plan. Deleting a document does not give pages or questions back. Where page citations matter most

FAQ

Can the answer include facts that are not in my documents

No. The answer is written only from passages retrieved from the selected space. If the passages do not support a statement, it is not shown.

What does a citation point to in a spreadsheet or a deck

For Excel and CSV files the citation names the sheet and the cell range. For PowerPoint files it names the slide. For PDF, Word, text and Markdown files it names the page.

What happens if a citation fails the check

The statement that relied on it is dropped before the answer is displayed. If nothing survives, you see the message that the documents do not contain an answer, together with the closest passages.

Do answers work on scanned documents

Yes. Scanned PDFs are read with OCR, and citations point to the page of the scan. A scanned page counts as 3 pages toward the monthly page limit.
