Workplace search for the questions that interrupt the day

A customer is waiting, a colleague needs approval and the right procedure is somewhere in the company documentation. ChatDocument gives your team workplace search across connected sources, with answers in plain words and a passage behind every sentence. Employees ask in the browser or, on Business and Scale, in Slack and Microsoft Teams.

Try it on a sample company

Search by the question you need answered

"Who should review a security response before I send it?" should not require knowing a folder path. The same is true of "How do I request access to a shared tool?" and "Which process covers an urgent supplier change?" These questions describe work rather than document names.

Work in progressEmployee questionRelevant company material
Responding to a customer"Which guidance can I share about data handling?"Security guidance and sales playbook
Starting a task"How do I request access to this tool?"IT access procedure
Handling an exception"Who approves a change to the normal process?"Department policy and approval guidance
Escalating an issue"What should I collect before handing this over?"Support runbook and escalation procedure

ChatDocument searches the documentation an employee can access and builds an answer with citations. Each sentence links to the document, section and space it came from. Open the passage to check the context, then return to the task with the documented guidance in view.

Reach across the tools your team uses

Connect Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive, Confluence, Notion, Dropbox and Slack. Include uploaded PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, websites and help centers. Your sources stay where they are, and new or edited documents are picked up on their own.

Sync running Northgate workspace 6 sources, 3,036 documents indexed Permissions mirrored

An Operations procedure and an IT policy can contribute to the same question when the employee has access to both. Department spaces give the material owners a place to manage their knowledge without asking employees to search every department separately. See how ChatDocument works.

Ask from the conversation where the question began

On Business and Scale, the Slack and Microsoft Teams bots answer direct messages and mentions, and can answer automatically in help channels. They use the same documentation and permissions as the web app. Each answer links to its source, so the team can check what it is being told.

When the documentation does not hold an answer, the bot can hand off to a person. That keeps an unresolved process question visible to the team instead of filling it with an unsupported explanation. Read about the Slack bot and Teams bot.

Keep workplace answers inside the right boundaries

Permissions come from the connected sources. Employees only receive answers from documents they are allowed to open, and private spaces keep sensitive HR or Legal material inside the right group. Admin, space owner, member and reader roles organize responsibility within the workspace.

When no source answers the question, ChatDocument says "not in your documents" and shows the closest passages. This distinction matters for questions such as "Can we skip this review for an urgent request?" An employee needs a documented exception or a decision from the responsible person, rather than an invented rule.

Use recurring questions to find unclear guidance

Verified answers have an owner, review date and version history, and saved answers can be reused by the team. Business and Scale add gap detection that groups unanswered questions for the right owner and flags conflicting or outdated documents.

Analytics show top questions and topics by department, the share of answers with a source, unanswered trends and estimated hours saved. Business and Scale include monthly leadership reports by email. Owners can use those views to decide which procedures need clearer documentation.

Choose where your team needs answers

Team includes the web workspace, verified and saved answers, roles and basic analytics for up to 15 people. It costs $149 monthly, or $74.50 per month billed yearly at $894, with 3,000 shared questions per month.

Choose Business or Scale for Slack and Teams bots. Business supports up to 50 people, while Scale supports up to 200 and adds SSO through SAML, SCIM, audit log, retention, API, webhooks and an intranet widget. The pricing page lists monthly and daily allowances, indexing limits and billing options.

FAQ

Can employees use workplace search outside company chat?

Yes. The web app provides the shared workspace. Chat bots on Business and Scale add another way to ask the same company documentation.

Will a question expose another department's private documents?

No. Source permissions and space access apply to answers, including answers delivered in chat.

Do chat questions count toward the plan?

Yes. Questions from the browser, Slack, Teams, widget and API count toward the shared plan allowance.

Keep documented guidance close to daily work

Connect the sources your team checks during customer conversations, approvals and handovers. Give employees a place to ask them together.
