ChatDocument

AI document search that returns the answer, not a list of files

Keyword search gives you twenty files that mention "termination" and leaves the reading to you. ChatDocument searches by meaning across every document in a space, writes the answer, and names the document and page for each statement. You still see where it came from, you just skip the twenty file hunt.

Try it on your PDF to see search by meaning

On the chat with PDF demo, drop a PDF and search for something the document says in different words, for example "when can either side walk away" in a contract that only uses "termination". No card needed for the demo.

Search by meaning, then read the source

  • Your query is matched against passages, not file names, so synonyms and rephrasing still find the right text
  • The result is a written answer with document name and page per statement, not a ranked list of files
  • Click a citation and the viewer opens at the highlighted passage
  • Spreadsheets cite sheet and cell range, decks cite the slide
  • Filter by space so the search covers the right set of documents

Search the places where your documents already live

Upload files directly or connect your drives. With Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive, and Dropbox you choose the folders, and they sync into the space on a schedule, so new versions become searchable without anyone uploading them again. Starter connects one drive, Team and higher connect all three. Read more on chat with Google Drive files and AI for SharePoint.

  • PDF, scans with OCR, Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX, CSV), PowerPoint (PPTX)
  • Plain text, Markdown and web pages by URL
  • Selected folders only, not the whole drive

A search that tells you when nothing matches

Generic chatbots answer every query, even when your files contain nothing on the subject, and quietly use general knowledge. ChatDocument answers only from documents in the space you searched. Each cited passage is checked in code against its page before the answer appears. When no document covers the question, the result says so and shows the closest passages it found, so you know the search was real and the gap is real.

Document search for a whole team

On Team, Business and Enterprise, spaces have roles: owners manage members and sources, editors add documents, askers search and ask. Saved threads keep the history of what was found, and a shared answer link lets you send a result with its citations. For company wide use, see enterprise search software.

FAQ

Does it search inside scanned documents

Yes. Scanned PDFs are read with OCR and become searchable. A scanned page counts as 3 pages toward the page limit.

How often do connected folders update

Selected folders sync on a schedule, so changes in the drive reach the space without a manual upload.

Can a search cover several spaces at once

A question runs against the space you select. Keep related documents in one space when you want them searched together.
