AI document management with spaces, roles and a record of every answer
A team that asks questions of its documents needs to know which documents each question can reach, who may add files and who may only ask. ChatDocument organizes documents into spaces, gives every member a role in each space, keeps threads and shared answers, and on Business and Enterprise records who asked what and which pages answered.
Spaces keep answers inside the right walls
A space is a set of documents with its own members. Answers in a space come only from the documents in that space, so the employment contracts in the HR space never surface in an answer for the sales team, and one client's files never inform an answer about another client. Create a space per team, per client, per matter or per project, and add files by upload, by URL or from a connected drive folder.
- Upload PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and Markdown, or add web pages by URL
- Sync folders from Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive, or Dropbox
- Search, tag and remove documents inside each space
Owner, editor and asker
| Role | What the role can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | invites and removes members, sets roles, connects drives, deletes the space and its index |
| Editor | adds, replaces and removes documents, runs extractions and comparisons, asks questions |
| Asker | asks questions, reads cited answers, opens the cited pages, saves threads |
Roles are set per space, so the same person can be an editor in the contracts space and an asker in the policy space. Roles come with Team, Business and Enterprise.
Set up a space for your team
- 1Create a space and name it after the team, client or matter.
- 2Add documents or connect a drive folder to it.
- 3Invite colleagues by email and pick a role for each.
- 4Members ask questions in the space, save threads they want to keep and share individual answers by link with colleagues who have access.
- 5On Business and Enterprise, review the audit log of questions, answers, cited pages, document changes and membership changes.
| Member | Role | Spaces |
|---|---|---|
| m.okafor@ | Owner | Legal, Finance |
| j.lindqvist@ | Editor | Legal |
| a.ferreira@ | Asker | Legal, HR policies |
| s.nakamura@ | Asker | Finance |

A record you can hand to a reviewer
On Business and Enterprise, the audit log lists who asked which question, when, in which space, and which document pages the answer cited. It also records documents added or removed and members invited, removed or given a new role. Enterprise adds single sign on through SAML, so access follows your identity provider.
Seats and spaces by plan
Starter is for one person: 1 seat and 3 spaces, without roles. Team has 5 seats, 15 spaces and roles. Business has 15 seats, unlimited spaces within page limits, roles and the audit log. Enterprise has 50 seats, unlimited spaces within page limits, roles, the audit log, SSO (SAML), an SLA of 99.9 and invoice billing. Questions are pooled across the seats of a plan. Prices on chat with PDF pricing, data handling on the secure AI document chat page.
Spaces that teams set up first
- AI legal document analysis: one space per client matter with the associates as editors.
- HR policy chatbot: an HR space where staff are askers and HR are editors.
- RFP AI: a proposal space with approved past answers and product documentation.
FAQ
Can a member see documents in spaces they do not belong to
No. Members see and ask only in the spaces they were invited to. Answers never draw on documents from other spaces.
What happens when a space is deleted
The documents and their index are deleted, and they are removed from backups within 30 days.
Can I share an answer with someone outside the space
A shared link opens for people with access to that space. To give someone else access, the space owner invites them with a role.
Does Starter include roles
No. Starter has one seat, so there is no one to assign a role to. Roles start with Team.
