ChatDocument

Summarize documents with AI and keep a page behind every line

A summary is only useful if you can trust what it left in and what it left out. ChatDocument writes summaries from the document itself, in the shape you choose, and puts a page citation on each line so you can jump straight to the passage behind any point.

Three summary shapes for three kinds of reading

  • One page brief: the points a decision maker needs from a long report, policy or agreement, each with its page.
  • Section by section: an outline that follows the structure of the document, so a 90 page handbook becomes a readable map with links into each chapter.
  • Custom template: your own headings, such as Parties, Obligations, Deadlines, Risks, filled from the document and saved for the next file.

Every line goes through the same citation check as an answer: the cited passage must exist on that page and contain the quoted words, or the line is removed before the summary is shown.

From document to cited brief

  1. 1Open a document in a space and choose Summarize.
  2. 2Pick the shape: one page, section by section, or a saved template.
  3. 3ChatDocument reads the full document, including scanned pages through OCR, and writes the summary from its passages only.
  4. 4Each line is checked against the stored text and shown with its page chip.
  5. 5Ask a follow-up question in the same thread, share the summary with a link, or export it.

A template for every recurring document

Teams that read the same kind of document every week save a template once. A legal team keeps one for incoming NDAs, a finance team one for quarterly filings, an HR team one for policy updates. Anyone with access to the space can run the template, so summaries look the same whoever wrote them.

Counted like an answer

Summaries are part of every plan. Each summary counts as 1 question toward your monthly and daily limits: 500 a month and 60 a day on Starter, 2,000 pooled and 250 a day on Team, 7,000 pooled and 800 a day on Business, 20,000 pooled and 2,000 a day on Enterprise. The pages of the document count once per billing period, and a scanned page counts as 3. Full prices on chat with PDF pricing.

FAQ

Does the summary leave anything out

A one page brief is selective by design. The section by section outline follows every section of the document, so you can see what each part covers and open it.

Can a summary include my own commentary

No. Summaries contain only what the document says, each line with its page. Add your notes in the thread or in the exported file.

Which file types can be summarized

PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), Excel (XLSX, CSV), plain text, Markdown and web pages added by URL. Scanned PDFs are read with OCR.
