AI contract review where every answer points to the clause
Reviewing a contract means finding the same handful of terms again and again: renewal, notice, liability, payment, termination. ChatDocument reads the agreement, answers your questions with the clause wording and page number, and checks each quoted passage against the document before you see it.
For the people who read contracts before they are signed
Contract review lands on counsel, but also on procurement, sales operations, finance and founders who sign vendor and customer paper every week.
- Customer agreements and order forms sent back with redlines
- Vendor contracts, data processing agreements and statements of work
- NDAs, reseller and partner agreements
- Old signed contracts that come up for renewal
- Your own templates and playbook documents, kept in the same space for reference
Questions reviewers ask in the first ten minutes
- Does this agreement renew automatically, and what notice do we need to give to stop it?
- What is the cap on our liability, and what is carved out of it?
- Who owns work product and improvements under this statement of work?
- Can the customer assign the contract after an acquisition?
- What payment terms and late fees apply, and on which page are they?
- How does this draft differ from our standard template on indemnity?
One space per deal, one cited answer per question
Drop the draft into a space with your template and any earlier versions. Ask in plain language and get an answer built only from those files, each sentence followed by a page chip that opens the contract at the highlighted clause.
- Compare versions: put the counterparty draft next to your template, or the signed contract next to the renewal offer, and see where indemnity, liability, term and payment differ. Up to 5 documents at once, with citations on both sides. Background reading on compare documents ai.
- Extract clauses to a table: run a set of contracts against columns such as Counterparty, Start date, Initial term, Auto-renewal, Notice to terminate, Liability cap, Indemnity, Governing law and Assignment on change of control. Each cell links to its page; export to XLSX or CSV for the contract register. The extract contract terms to excel guide shows how to set up the columns.
- Summaries: a one-page summary of the key commercial terms, or section by section for a long master agreement, every line cited.
- Share the result: send one answer by link to the business owner, or invite them as an asker so they can check terms without editing the space.
When a term is missing
If the contract says nothing about, for example, a price increase cap, ChatDocument says the answer is not in the document and shows the nearest passages it checked. A missing clause is often the finding, and the tool does not hide it by inventing an answer from general knowledge.

AI contract review is not legal advice
ChatDocument shows you what the contract says and where it says it. It does not give legal advice, it does not tell you whether a clause is acceptable for your business, and it does not replace a lawyer's judgment. Read the cited clause before you rely on an answer, and take decisions about risk and negotiation positions with your counsel. For teams that run contract work end to end, see ai legal document analysis.
FAQ
Does ChatDocument mark risky clauses on its own?
It answers the questions you ask and compares documents you choose, with citations. Deciding what counts as risky for your business stays with you and your counsel.
Can I compare a Word draft with a signed PDF?
Yes. Word (DOCX) and PDF files, including scanned PDFs read with OCR, can sit in the same comparison.
Are our contracts used to train AI models?
No. Documents are never used to train models, and the AI model providers we use are bound by contract not to train on your content.
What happens when I delete a contract?
The document and its index are removed. Pages and questions already used in the billing period are not given back.
