ChatDocument

Ask PDF questions in plain English and see the page that answers

You know what you want to know, you just do not know where the document says it. With ChatDocument you ask the PDF directly, the way you would ask a colleague who has read it. The answer comes back with the page, and the passage is highlighted so you can read it in context.

Try it on your PDF with one real question

Go to the chat with PDF demo, drop a PDF or choose the software services agreement from the ready documents, and type a question like "How many days notice do we need to terminate". No card needed for the demo.

  • Question chips help you start if you are not sure what to ask
  • Pick a short or detailed answer style
  • One PDF and one question without an account

Questions that work well on a PDF

You can talk to a PDF about anything it contains. The best questions are specific, but you do not need the exact wording the document uses.

  • "Who pays for repairs under this lease?"
  • "What is the limit for hotel costs per night?"
  • "List every date mentioned in section 7"
  • "Which risks does the report name for next quarter?"
  • "Is there an auto renewal clause, and what does it say?"

Follow up without starting over

Asking one question rarely settles it. In a thread, ChatDocument keeps the context, so "and what if we miss it" refers to the deadline you just asked about. Each reply in the thread carries its own page citations. Save the thread, return to it next week, or share a single answer by link with a teammate.

  • Threads saved per space
  • Each follow up answered from the same documents
  • Shared answers keep their citations

When you ask the PDF something it does not cover

A general chatbot will still answer, mixing in what it knows from elsewhere. ChatDocument answers only from documents in your selected space and checks each cited passage on its page before showing it. When the PDF does not cover your question, you read "This document does not contain an answer to that question", followed by the closest passages it checked and their pages. You learn something useful either way: the gap is real.

  • Answers only from your files
  • Page citation on every statement
  • Closest passages shown instead of a guess

Ask across many PDFs at once

After you create your account, put related files in one space and ask them together: every policy, every contract with one vendor, every board pack from last year. The answer names the document and page for each statement. To set two files against each other, use compare documents AI. For a team that asks the same documents again and again, ChatDocument keeps it organized as an internal knowledge base with roles.

FAQ

What counts as one question?

One question is one cited answer. A follow up in a thread is another question. A comparison of documents counts as 3 questions.

Can I ask in a language other than English?

Yes. Ask in the language you work in. The citations point to the pages of the original file.

What if my PDF is a scan?

Scanned PDFs are read with OCR, so you can ask them like any other file. A scanned page counts as 3 pages toward the monthly page limit.
