ChatDocument

AI PDF reader that takes you straight to the right passage

Reading a long PDF to find one sentence is slow, and skimming misses things. ChatDocument is an AI PDF reader with two panes: the document on the left, your answer on the right. Ask a question, and the reader jumps to the page and highlights the passage the answer came from, so you read the source, not a paraphrase of it.

Try it on your PDF in the reader

Drop a PDF on the chat with PDF demo or open one of the ready documents, such as the employee handbook excerpt. Ask one question and watch the viewer land on the highlighted page. No card needed for the demo.

  • Text PDFs and scanned PDFs (OCR) are both readable
  • Page chips like "p. 4" open the viewer at that spot
  • One PDF and one question, with no account

How AI read PDF works inside ChatDocument

When you ask AI to read a PDF, ChatDocument keeps the layout of every page and maps each passage to its page number. Your question is matched against those passages, the answer is written only from the ones that match, and every quoted passage is checked in code against the page before the answer appears. You can click any citation and the viewer scrolls to it with the text highlighted.

  • Side by side document viewer and answer panel
  • Highlight on the exact lines the answer used
  • Slide numbers for decks, sheet and cell range for spreadsheets
  • Thread history so you can return to what you read yesterday

What the AI PDF reader replaces in your day

Instead of Ctrl+F on a word that the document spells differently, you ask PDF questions about what the document means. Instead of reading a 40 page policy to find the travel limit, you ask for the travel limit and read the two lines that set it. Instead of copying figures into notes by hand, you ask for them as a list with pages next to each number.

  • Find a definition, even when the wording differs from your question
  • Check an exception buried in an appendix
  • Pull every deadline from a document into one list
  • Read the cited passage before you rely on it

A reader that admits when the text is silent

Generic chatbots answer even when the PDF is silent, and the gap gets filled with general knowledge that sounds right. ChatDocument answers only from documents in your selected space. When the answer is not in them, the reader says so and shows the closest passages it checked, with pages, so you know where it looked. That is what makes the highlighted passage worth trusting.

  • No answers from outside your files
  • Every statement tied to a page
  • Closest passages shown when the answer is missing

FAQ

Can the AI PDF reader open password protected PDFs

Remove the password before upload. ChatDocument reads the text of the file, so a locked PDF cannot be indexed until it is unlocked.

Does it keep the original layout

Yes. The viewer shows the original pages, and the highlight sits on the passage as it appears in the file.

Can I read Word files and slide decks too

Yes. Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), Excel (XLSX, CSV), plain text, Markdown and web pages by URL open in the same reader, with slide or cell references instead of page numbers where that fits.

Can I share what I read with a colleague

Yes. Save the thread and share an answer by link. The colleague sees the answer and the cited pages if they have access to the space.
